“On February 2nd, the New Cult Canon series returns to the Music Box Theatre in Chicago with 1985’s Death Wish 3, the sublimely insane second sequel to Charles Bronson’s reactionary 1974 vigilante hit. The screening itself is exciting enough—and reports of a “gorgeous” print make it even more so—but we’re upping the ante this time around: Alex Winter, best known as Bill S. Preston Esq. from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and co-director/star of the 1993 cult comedy Freaked, will be joining us as a special guest. Winter’s role as one of the “creeps” that terrorize an urban neighborhood in Death Wish 3 was one of his earliest screen appearances, and he’ll be sharing his insight into the production of this very strange and very deranged movie.”
“It’s been quite some time since Alex Winter directed creatures on the big screen for the cult favorite Freaked. And while he’s been busy in the TV realm since then (most notably, helming two of the Ben 10 movies for Cartoon Network), fans who freaked out over his last feature venture have been anxiously awaiting his return. Now he’s back with a new version of the 1987 independent hit The Gate (pictured), to be shot in 3-D next year.”
